 | Micro-chipping is the process of inserting a small identification chip, about the size of a piece of rice, into the area between the shoulder blades. All the rescue groups and county animal control agencies in the area scan incoming animals to check for a microchip, as would we if someone came into our office with a stray.
The enormous benefit of a micro-chip is that your pet can’t lose the chip like a collar and tags can be lost. Since the chip cannot be lost it is a permanent method of identification. If your pet is lost or stolen, the chip registered to your name will prove the pet belongs to you.
We strongly recommend micro-chipping for all pets. It is a quick and easy procedure that can be done during an office call. There are no yearly fees, just the cost of insertion and a one time registration fee with AVID, the micro-chip company. The registration with AVID is essential so that current owner information can be maintained throughout the life of your pet. |
