Microchipping is the process of inserting a small identification chip, about the size of a piece of rice, into the area between the shoulder blades. All rescue groups and county animal control agencies in the area scan incoming animals to check for a microchip, as would we if someone came into our office with a stray.
The enormous benefit of a microchip is that your it cannot be lost like a collar or tag, making it a permenant method of identification. If your pet is lost or stolen, the chip registered to your name will prove the pet belongs to you and provide a way for your pet to find his or her way home again.
We strongly recommend microchipping for all pets. It is a quick and easy procedure that can be done during an office call. We use ResQ microchips, which are ISO compatible, universal, and can be scanned by any microchip scanner around the world. There are no yearly fees to keep your information current and you can add multiple contacts in case of emergency or if you utilize multiple addresses or phone numbers. We highly recommend that all pets, even those that spend their time indoor only, get a microchip in the event your pet escapes or gets lost.
